The Great Commission

Luke 4:18-19

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

The Great Commission

Hi, this is Daphne Collins, The Lighthouse Keeper, with Carry the Light Ministries, bringing you An Encouraging Message.  Does it feel at times as if you're speaking and absolutely no one is listening to you?  Well, you're not alone. We all have those feelings sometimes.  For anyone who claims to be a follower of Jesus Christ, and who chooses to obey the call of The Great Commission, you will have difficulty in this world.

Jesus himself experienced many difficulties in his earthly mission, as did his disciples.  In the Gospel of Luke, there's an account in chapter four where Jesus is entering the synagogue of his own hometown of Nazareth.  Jesus comes in and goes before the men of his town and is handed the scroll of Isaiah.  In chapter four, beginning at verse 18, Jesus stands before the men of his hometown and reads, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

Jesus knew that there would be difficulty.  But the key point that we need to remember here that we can be encouraged about, is that the Spirit of the Lord is what was prompting Jesus. He said himself, the Spirit of the Lord is upon me.  Jesus promised the Spirit to his disciples before he left this world.

We could do nothing without the Spirit. The Spirit of the Lord would empower us to go out to share the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Otherwise, we would not be able to operate in our own flesh; we would be incapable of doing that. We would have greater difficulty in trying to get that message across.

It is the Spirit who empowers us. It is the Spirit who equips us. It is the Spirit who teaches us exactly what it is we are to say.  We simply go in faith. We walk in faith. We walk by the Spirit. We will be okay as long as the Spirit is with us.  That is good news. That is the good news of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.

So go on out there and know that the Lord is with you.  And be encouraged! This is Daphne Collins, The Lighthouse Keeper, with Carry the Light Ministries. Thank you.
